Snip Green

Taking the empathic notion of displacement, in this case the child refugee – I am looking at the child’s pictorial fantasy of her removal from place to the refugee space: riding on crumbling fragments of home; a backdrop of the psychedelic trauma of war; a perspective of her home landscape seen but rendered unrecognisable; and the intimate home space, remembered and longed for.

The landscape represented below this child is an abstraction based on the Syrian city of Raqqa, on the river Euphrates. At the time of illustration it is the site of ongoing conflict, with no foreseeable resolution.
