Nyabol is from South Sudan where violence forced her to flee and find refuge in Kenya. The life of a refugee is defined by dislocation, not only from your homeland and basic needs but from your family. When that sense of separation is so immense that you could forget what your parents looked like is something I found particularly heartbreaking. Despite this, Nyabol seemed to contain a vibrancy and strength that I found inspiring and which I tried to capture with colour and her expression.
